Hundreds of schoolchildren across Wiltshire will line the streets to welcome the Tour of Britain cyclists through the county tomorrow, with pupils going bike crazy ahead of the arrival of the race.
Among the schools taking part is The Mead Community Primary School in Trowbridge, with all of Key Stage 2 walking along to Trowbridge Road to see Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and other top riders speed through the town.
Newtown Community Primary School will also be watching the race, with the whole school except for reception going to County Hall, where there will be a FanZone for the day.
Grove Primary School’s Key Stage 2 pupils will also be going to County Hall to watch, while Bellefield Primary School pupils are going to Stancombe Avenue to cheer on the cyclists.
Sarah Inman, PSHE co-ordinator at The Mead, said: “We are taking all of our Key Stage 2 children and walking them up to the top of Trowbridge Road where the road meets the Devizes Road.
"We have made flags to take with us to cheer the cyclists along.
“To prepare, we have been learning about the Tour in our class assemblies this week. We are really excited and really looking forward to taking part in this event.
“As a Bike it plus Bronze award school, we are very active in promoting cycling within the school as we feel that the benefits of cycling are so great; health-wise and because it is really good fun.
“Watching this event we hope will further support our children in being inspired to cycle.”
Before the cyclists reach Trowbridge, pupils from Winsley Primary School will catch a glimpse of them speeding along the Winsley bypass, towards Bradford on Avon.
Christ Church Primary School in Bradford on Avon will watch a power point presentation to celebrate the race, before lining Bath Road and watching the cyclists race out of Winsley Road towards the town centre.
Sarah Jones, senior admin officer, said: “It is great to get everyone involved. We will be lining the streets as we did for the Olympic torch.
“The Tour of Britain might never through here again so we have to give them the opportunity to see it.”
Key Stage One and Two pupils from Fitzmaurice Primary School will also line Trowbridge Road and watch the cyclists sprinting out of Bradford towards Trowbridge.
