Trowbridge children’s charity Stepping Stones has special events next week to thank the supporters of the Wiltshire Times’ Give Us a Chance campaign who helped raise more than £10,000.

Staff and children at the special needs nursery are inviting supporters to either meet the team at their annual meeting on Wednesday or see how a session works during an open day on Thursday.

The open day at the centre, which serves west Wiltshire children with learning difficulties and disabilities, is from 9.30am-2.30pm and anyone wanting to see a session is asked to book a slot in advance.

Launched in February, the campaign was set up by the Wiltshire Times when Stepping Stones lost £10,000 of funding from Wiltshire Council when central government withdrew its Aiming High For Disabled Children grants.

Stepping Stones’ communications co-ordinator Teresa Blake said the open day and session were their way of showing appreciation to supporters.

“People can come to our annual general meeting, where there will be light refreshments to meet the staff, or they can come a meet some of the children during a pre-school session on Thursday,” she said.

The campaign for the charity based at Longfield Children’s Centre in Broadcloth Lane, reached the £10,000 target in March and the total is currently £12,542.

Parent toddler group Sally Anne Tots, based at Trowbridge Salvation Army Hall in Castle Street, is the latest to contribute to the cause, donating £350 to Stepping Stones.

Group leader Jane Wickham said: “We thought it would be good for the children to help raise money for other children with learning difficulties.”
