Almost 200 people turned out for a special event organised by two sixth form students at St Laurence School on March 21 as part of their BTEC music technology course.

Joel Gibson-Gleave and Tim Bryce put on the competition, called Create the Show, which featured 13 different bands and artists competing against each other in three categories – Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.

The winners were Tom Morling and Alice McNeil in Key Stage 3 and Chloe Laws and Ellie Coyle in Key Stage 4, while both Charis Nathan and funk band Lightwork were the joint winners in Key Stage 5.

The judges for the competition were Clive Stocker, curriculum coordinator for music performance at City of Bath College, Gary Prestwich, marketing and development manger at Wiltshire Music Centre, and David Bond, from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Head of performing arts Kate Rowe said: “The judges had a hard time deciding on the final winners as all the acts were of such a high standard. They were delighted with how good everyone was.

“There were 190 people in the audience, which is incredible, as we were only expecting just over 100. Joel and Tim did a great job organising the event and they had excellent assistance from some of their fellow students.”

The proceeds raised from the event will go towards the St Laurence School Association to fund school projects.
