New Bradford on Avon town clerk Sandra Bartlett is hoping to make a difference and improve the town.
Mrs Bartlett, 54, had served as assistant town clerk for 15 years before succeeding Diane Holmes who resigned in February.
The town council received 40 applications for the position with Mrs Bartlett getting the job after two interviews.
Mrs Bartlett, who lives in North Bradley with husband Kevin, starts her new role today, and she said: “It is absolutely unbelievable and I’m really happy as this role is a natural progression for me. Despite my experience, getting the job was not a given because there was a rigorous application process.
“I have spoken to Diane who wished me well and I’m looking forward to continuing with this great team.”
Mrs Bartlett, who has two grown-up children, said her initial aim is getting get St Margaret’s Hall back open. The venue, which has been closed since April last year, is currently undergoing a major renovation to modernise it which will enable the hall to host more events.
The work was due to be completed in December but met delays following the severe winter rainfall which flooded Bradford on Avon.
Mayor John Potter welcomed Mrs Bartlett’s appointment and believes she’s a great asset to the town.
He said: “Sandra is very capable, very jolly with people and has the best interests of Bradford on Avon at heart.”
