Bradford on Avon's Lorry Watch has brought more successful prosecutions against lorry drivers ignoring restrictions through the town. 

The group is made up of volunteers working with Wiltshire Council and the town council to monitor vehicles infringing the weight limit on the town bridge.

Since 2012 they have regularly brought companies to account for flouting the rules and now the latest court appearances at Swindon Magistrates Court on March 17 brings the number of successful prosecutions up to 54.

Keith Humphries, cabinet member for public protection, said: “I want to congratulate all those involved in lorry watch for their commitment day in day out in making this an effective campaign which has made such an impact.

“This is a clear example of a community working together with the council to solve a local problem, and companies are starting to realise if they ignore the signs they are going to get caught.”

Stephanie Ridout, co-ordinator of lorry watch, said: “We have a very active community of volunteers who regularly monitor traffic across the bridge and this is why we have been so successful.

“We believe the message is reaching drivers, and companies, that you don’t get away with ignoring the signs in Bradford on Avon.”
