Inspector Chris Cham-mings is overseeing policing in Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon, replacing Inspector Lisette Harvey.
Insp Chammings, 45, joined the force in 1991 and will be based at Trowbridge Police Station where he has been getting to know his new team this week.
He comes from a post at Wiltshire Police Headquar-ters in Devizes.
Insp Chammings has previously worked as a firearms officer in a counter terrorism team, and has recently finished working on collaboration plans between Wiltshire, Avon and Somerset and Gloucester forces.
He said: “Having been out of local policing for 15 years it is great to get back to the grassroots. I’m looking forward to building relationships with the community.
“I want to build on all the work that Lisette has done and bring my expertise to the role.”
Insp Harvey will be working with Superinten-dent Nick John, planning police strategies in Trow-bridge, Bradford on Avon, Melksham, Chippenham and Devizes.
She said: “I will miss the team as they have worked tirelessly for me over the last two years.”
Her proudest achievement during her time based in Trowbridge was reducing alcohol related crime in the town centre, she added, saying: “I think we’ve broken the perception that Trow- bridge is an unsafe place to visit. I’d like to thank the community for their support towards me and my team. I wish Chris all the best in his new role.”
