Cumberwell Park Golf Club captain Martin Cooper is hoping a year of fundraising will hit his target of £10,000 for two cancer charities.
Mr Cooper, 61, from Trowbridge, has a packed calendar of events lined up, which started with an anniversary dinner to celebrate 20 years of Cumberwell Park Golf Club.
His wife Sue, who last year retired as assistant headteacher of St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon, is undergoing treatment for cancer so he chose a local charity, the Cancer Care Campaign at Royal United Hospital in Bath, and a national charity, Breast Cancer Campaign.
His friend and fellow golfer Mark Hobbs raised £2,000 with a head shave at the club two weeks ago, as his wife Liz is also having treatment for cancer at RUH.
Mr Cooper said: “They have both had superb first class treatment at the RUH and we want to give something back.
“Mark’s £2,000 has got us off to a good start. I have a target and hope we hit it. It is good to set yourself high goals.”
After taking part in his Captain’s Drive-In event on Sunday, he has arranged a fashion show on April 9 at The Old Bear Inn, Staverton, with the Trowbridge clothes shop Aspire, and the Captain’s Weekend on June 28 will be packed with competitions, dinner and an auction of promises.
In the summer Mr Cooper will play nine holes at Cumberwell Park before cycling round Wiltshire golf clubs to complete another other nine holes, playing one hole at each course.
He has many other events planned including taking part in the Prudential London Ride-Surrey 100 on August 10.
