An extra £3m has been added to Wiltshire Council’s pothole repair budget after the Government awarded grants to those hit by this winter’s severe weather.

The money is coming from the Government’s exceptional payment fund of £183.5m. The money will go to repair the estimated 25 miles of Wiltshire roads damaged following this winter’s rain and frost.

From the fund Somerset has received £12.3m and Gloucestershire has been allotted £3.3m.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin MP said: “This extra money will help make a real difference to the millions of road users and residents across the south west who rely on local roads giving them safer and smoother journeys.”
