Footballers for Dilton Rovers and Larkhall U11s raised over £100 for Breast Cancer Care during a special match at the start of March by wearing odd socks.
The event was organised by Dilton Rovers chairman James Collins, who lost his 34-year-old sister Helen to breast cancer last year, with the game taking place on the first anniversary of her death.
Mr Collins, who has been the club’s chairman for 18 months, said: “She was too young and left behind a wonderful husband and two small children. We all miss her very much but wanted to remember her with smiles.
“From an earlier age Helen would wear odd socks and as family and friends we do the same each year. This being the first year, we asked our team and Larkhall if they would wear odd football socks in the match.
“All the players, including Helen's nephew, coaches, managers and officials, supported the day with all proceeds and donations taken on the day going to the Breast Cancer Care charity.
“We raised over £100 and got to see some truly amazing odd socks. Larkhall even carried the theme through the weekend with their sponsor matching any donations from other matches. I cannot thank enough everyone for making this sad day a happier one.”
