Artwork from Clarendon Academy A-level and GCSE pupils is being put up in Trowbridge’s Biss Meadows Country Park in the hope it will help end a spate of graffiti.

Year 12 and 10 pupils from the school, in Frome Road, are currently working on 14 panels which will go on a wall under a bridge in the park as part of a mural and also be submitted as their art coursework.

The artwork is expected to be in place by the end of June after a grant of £1,547 from Wiltshire and Swindon Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson’s innovation fund paid for materials.

Year 12 pupil Charles Stone, 17, whose work will feature in the mural, said: “We hope our designs, which were inspired by artist Sir Eduardo Paolizzi, will put a stop to the graffiti.”

Vandals have targeted the wall, frustrating volunteer group Friends of Biss Meadows Country Park, which has overseen improvements in the area.

Ernie Newcombe, group chairman, said: “I hope the school will take ownership of the mural and say ‘we did this, and don’t you dare touch it’.”

Mr Macpherson said: “It’s nice to see young people showing civic pride.”
