Without the help of the Melksham Food Bank, hardworking families in the Melksham area may have gone without food until the next payday. I can’t praise them enough.
It may come as a surprise to many people that it’s not only those on benefits that are having to rely on the service of food banks, but many hardworking people on the minimum wage, or on zero hours contracts.
Most major supermarkets have provision for people to make a small donation of food to the local food bank. Can I urge that next time you go shopping you consider a donation, no matter how small it may be. If your local shop or supermarket hasn’t got an area for donations please ask them why.
Councillor Terry Chivers, Independent, Melksham Without North, Eden Grove, Whitley, Melksham.
