Trowbridge pupils hit the right notes in St Augustine’s Catholic College’s Young Musician of the Year awards at the Wiltshire Music Centre.
The event, in Bradford on Avon on March 12, was won by pianist Vincent Ling, 13; singer Clover Kayne, 15, was runner-up; and cellist Jessica Jennings, 16, was named the most promising musician.
In total 11 children performed.
Judges then selected four performers who gave a second performance before the finalists were announced.
Year 9 pupil Vincent, who started playing the piano when he was eight, was given a trophy and £100.
Vincent, who was named the most promising musician in the 2012 awards, said: “I was a little nervous playing and then having to do it again. Winning came as such a shock and my face was a picture when it was announced that I won. I’m absolutely delighted.”
Clover received £50 and a trophy while Jessica was given £25 and a trophy.
Jessica said: “I’ve been playing music for 11 years and I’ve always seen myself going into a career in medicine, but receiving this honour might change my mind.”
The school in Wingfield Road has been running the the awards since 1992.
Organiser Richard O’Mahony, the school’s head of music, said: “It was a really lovely event and it is great to see such a high standard as always.
“Congratulations to everyone who took part.”
