British Transport Police is renewing its call for the public’s help to identify a man officers want to speak to in connection with an assault on board a train between Castle Cary and Bruton stations in Somerset.

The incident which took place at about 7pm on Saturday, February 8, and police released two CCTV images of a man they they they believe will have information which can assist the investigation.

Detective Constable Steve Eyers, investigating officer, said today: “The victim, a 45-year-old man from Frome, was travelling on a Weymouth–Bristol Temple Meads train when he was subjected to an apparently unprovoked assault by another man on board the train.

“The man who carried out the assault got off the train at Bruton station. Enquiries have been ongoing to trace him, but to no avail.

"I believe the man in these photographs will have key information about this incident.

"If you know him, please come forward and contact BTP straight away."
