Westbury Railway Station manager Nicholas Reid said he has learned from the best, after receiving an award for Young Professional of the Year at the Rail Business Awards.

The 26-year-old manages 20 stations across Wiltshire and Somerset, including Westbury, and was recognised at the awards on February 28, after a successful first two years in the role.

During that time, he has managed Castle Cary Station during Glastonbury Festival, overseen the refurbishment of Bradford on Avon Station and exceeded performance targets for 13 consecutive periods.

Mr Reid, who lives in South Gloucestershire, said: “It was a great thing to win and a lot of the credit should go to my staff, as this award is as much a testament to them as it is to me.

“It was a surprise but it was good to be recognised. I have learned a lot with First Great Western and I have had the opportunity to work alongside and learn from some great managers.

“We have a lot of events in this area, including Glasto and the Sunrise Festival last year, so it is important that the service is always improving as there is lots of scope for more people to use it.

“We want to guarantee that growth and get people moving through the area, so while it is nice to win the award, I am constantly looking to improve and do more for the train service in the area.”

First Great Western was shortlisted for three awards, the Young Professional, Diversity and Inclusion and Best PR Campaign.
