Grants worth more than £9,000 were approved by Warminster Area Board last Thursday, including £4,000 for Warminster Town Council’s First World War Commemoration Project.
The town council is planning a series of events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Great War over the next four years, with an interactive exhibition just one of the ideas for the project.
Events will include a drumhead service and re-enactment, with the council buying six authentic First World War uniforms for £1,500, while the town’s war memorial will also be cleaned.
The area board also approved a request of £2,500 from Cornerstone Warminster, a project aimed at relieving poverty and distress in the town by helping people find work through a job club.
Grants were also approved for Warminster Community Choir, which received £2,140 for a public address system, and Warminster Economy and Tourism Group, which received £400 to buy a picture for the toilets in the Central car park.
