Conservative Martin Newman won the by-election for Bradford on Avon Town Council's North Ward by 48 votes on Thursday.
The turnout was 28.9 per cent and Mr Newman received a total of 556 votes, while Liberal Democrat candidate Fiona Best received 508 votes. There were 21 rejected votes.
The town councillor vacancy became available when Shelia Allen resigned at the beginning of the year.
