Trowbridge fundraiser Donna-Michelle Hall will be walking barefoot over red-hot wood embers measuring around 800 degrees on March 30 to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Mrs Hall, of Staverton, is taking part in the challenge to raise more awareness about type one diabetes - a condition suffered by her 12-year-old daughter Cerys-Anne.

The event is being led by Time 4 Change, which is an innovative training and events organisation that regularly guides people through fire walking, and Mrs Hall will be joined by friends Michelle West and Jenna Sawyer.

She has previously held events such as A Delightfully Vintage Fair at Westbury White Horse Country Park in aid of the charity, but decided she wanted to do something more adventurous this time.

Mrs Hall, who also runs the Insulin Gang website for children with type one diabetes, said: “I really enjoy fundraising, but I usually go for the safer options, like holding fairs and similar events.

“I thought it was about time I did something a bit more adventurous and pushed myself and this seemed like the ideal opportunity. I also got two of my friends to do it as well.

“We have already raised over £200 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, but we always want more and I’m hoping we can double that amount. There will also be others from the diabetes community taking part on the day.

“The challenge will be more about the mental side than it will be about the physical side.

"You look at hot embers and your instinct tells you not to go towards them, but it’s all about focusing your mind.”

As well as the fire walking challenge, Mrs Hall will also be holding an '80s charity night in aid of JDRF at Westbury Conservative Club on April 11 from 7.30pm-1am. Tickets are £7 and are available from the club.
