Police were called to a house in The Croft, Trowbridge, at 12.40pm today, after a man was reported smashing down the door and walking out with a handbag.

The man, who is believed to be in his 20s, was described as having dark hair and stubble. A witness said he was wearing a grey and black top and jeans.

Police informed the home owner about what had happened when they returned to the property at 1.20pm.

It is believed the offender also searched through jewellery, but it is not known whether anything has been taken.
