Celebrated children’s poet Brian Moses joined pupils and teachers at Westbury Leigh Primary School in Westbury for the opening of the new library last Thursday.
Mr Moses, who has more than 200 works published, led writing workshops with the children and read out a special poem with the help of six pupils from the school, before officially opening the new library.
The library was installed over the February half term, after a donation from Friends of Westbury Leigh Primary School (FOWLS) and fundraising events at the school managed to raise £8,000 for the project.
Mr Moses said: “I have opened a number of libraries and it’s always a pleasure to be asked.
"I know from speaking to the pupils that they will make the most of the library and it’s an honour to officially open it.”
Among Mr Moses’ most well-known poems is The Snake Hotel, Walking with my Iguana and What Teachers Wear in Bed. He was also asked by CBBC to write a poem for the Queen’s 80th birthday.
Headteacher Debbie Grimsey said: “The library really has brought reading to life for the children and we are very grateful to FOWLS for their generous financial support. The new library is absolutely splendid.”
