Around two dozen people met on a recent Saturday morning in Southwick Country Park to witness the planting of an oak tree in commemoration of Mary Stacey. Mary was a West Wiltshire District Councillor who became chairman of the Friends of Southwick Country Park and was one of the major supporting spirits in the creation of the land as a country park. She died in 2011. The tree was planted by her daughter Jane and son Peter in a simple ceremony led by Joan Jones, Mary’s successor as chairman of the Friends and helped by Wiltshire Council’s Countryside team.
