It was a case of hair today gone tomorrow for five Bradford on Avon fundraisers who each had seven inches of their hair cut for a children’s wig charity on Saturday.

Julie Perrett-Smith, of Priory Close, decided to step up her fundraising efforts for various charities this year, focusing first on Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs for children with cancer.

Mrs Perrett-Smith said: “It is such an amazing cause and hair grows back so it was not an issue. It is going to little children who have been through a traumatic time and it will make a difference.”

The mother-of-two, her friend Natalie King – whose daughter Harmony joined in – and 10-year-old friends Miranda Evans and Yasemin Kisioglu, held their fundraising day at the Canal Tavern pub.

Mobile hairdresser Lisa Williams tied their hair, plaited it, measured it and then snipped through the five plaits, before tidying up the loose ends.

Mrs Perrett-Smith said: “The children were so brave having their hair cut. They were all aware of where it was going and what it was for.

“We were all quite nervous but Lisa was great and put us at ease. A couple of people popped in off the canal towpath and we were supported by friends and family.”

The group hopes to have raised £300 from donations, a cake sale, nail painting, a raffle and the hair cut.

Mrs Perrett-Smith said she was already looking towards her next venture and wanted to raise money for Dorothy House Hospice.
