Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon is on target with an appeal to pay for a new ‘light sculpture’ designed by Warminster artist Bruce Munro.
The project, Rhythm and Blues, was announced in July with a fundraising target of £20,000.
This has now been reached, but more cash is needed.
Clare Jack, executive director, said: “We increased the target and are now two-thirds of the way towards it, having already raised £20,000, through significant individual donations and a £4,000 grant from the Area Board.
“We are well on the way. We hope to reach the target by April/May as that is when the foyer is being refurbished.”
The centre received an Arts Council England grant of £371,065 in January for upgrades and improvements to its auditorium and foyer and an office extension.
Work on the auditorium, including a new public announcement system and surround sound cinema system to allow live ‘streaming’ of opera and ballet, has just been completed and phase two, the foyer and office extension, will start in May.
Mrs Jack added: “There will be no disruption to the performances. The work will be in holiday times from May to September.”
Mr Munro said: “There is a great parallel between visual and sound. Sound and light seem to go together very well. The idea was conceived thinking about music and the way it creates shapes and space.”
