Rock Diabetes was back with a bang at the weekend, packing the civic centre with a festival of live rock and heavy metal.
Now in its second year, over 30 acts took to the two stages on Saturday and Sunday to raise money for JDRF, a type 1 diabetes charity. Breed 77, a hard rock act fusing both metal and flamenco, headlined the family festival and other names included Local Hero and Steve Grimmett’s Grim Reaper.
Festival organiser Doug Harvey said: “We have been inundated with applications from bands all over the country wanting to play at the festival and we have already started putting together the bill for next year.”
Last year Rock Diabetes raised £6,000 for the cause, and organisers are hoping they have beaten that this time round.
Funds raised will go towards supporting research into better treatment for young diabetes sufferers, as well as preventing and eventually curing the illness.
