Over the last few years, I have written a number of letters regarding councillors’ expenses, as during this time they have taken automatic increases irrespective of what the economic climate is, or how the rest of us might be suffering.
They, under their leader, have also cut the services and staff, with scant regard to the effect this might be having on the electorate.
Their latest actions have led to the public refusing to accept this misuse of power and are calling for the resignation of Councillor Scott and her cabinet.
To this end, a petition has been implemented and, if you agree, then you can go and sign it at the website http://you.38degrees.org.uk/ petitions/resignation-of-leader- and-cabinet-of-wiltshire-council.
My experience is that, even if the whole electorate signed, this woman would consider herself above it all and probably come out with the famous statement, “The lady is not for turning.”
Furthermore, it has been reported in the press that Councillor Scott refuses to answer questions put to her in various forms, which is a strong indication that she is so arrogant that she is above having to reply to us “plebs”.
When we voted for our councillors, it was because we liked to think that we live in a democracy; well, up to a point, we do.
The problem is that once we give these people a little power, it goes to their heads and the nearest they get to acknowledging that they represent us, not rule us, is to put “Where people matter” on various items.
Whether Councillor Scott has any skills, they certainly do not include people skills and, in view of her recent actions, she and her cabinet are certainly not fit for purpose and should be replaced immediately.
In addition, this would give us the electorate the chance to insist that the number of councillors be reduced and the expenses of these people be reduced.
Now the public has started to react and realise the situation, every effort should be made to use our rights to get justice and ensure that the people who we elect understand what their obligations and limitations are.
