Warminster stalwart Chris March was presented with a Civic Award during a council meeting last week for his dedication to the town during his 23 years as a town councillor.
Mr March was a councillor from 1991 to 2013, serving as mayor in 2001-2002, and has been involved in many committees, including The Civic Trust and Warminster and Villages Development Trust.
The 77-year-old, who has lived in Warminster for 30 years, has also played a key role in the Warminster Preservation Trust, which has been campaigning for many years to bring the Old Town Hall back into use.
Mr March said: “I am delighted – the award was quite unexpected.
“There were lots of memorable moments during my time as councillor, including working closely on the development of Crusader Park. I’m very proud to have been a part of that.
“I have seen the town change a lot over the years and I will probably see quite a few more changes over the next few years as well if I’m still around.
“I’ve enjoyed helping various groups. My main concern now is making the Old Town Hall a central part of the town again.”
Mr March has also been involved with the Economy and Tourism Group, Friends of Warminster Park, Friends of Warmin-ster Hospital and the Governing Body of Kingdown School.
Councillor George Jolley said: “Chris has worked tirelessly to improve the fabric of the town. His devotion to the people and town of Warminster make him a worthy winner of this award.”
