A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of former Bradford Leigh woman Melanie Hall.

The man was arrested at a Bath address at 8.30am last Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into the death of the 25-year-old, who was killed after disappearing from the Cadillacs nightclub in the city in 1996.

He was questioned at a Bristol police station for three days, before being released on bail on Wednesday pending further inquiries.

Detectives from Avon and Somerset Police also searched a property in Roundhill Park, Bath.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said Melanie’s parents Steve and Pat Hall have been kept informed of the latest development, which comes just weeks after the most recent police appeal for information from the public.

At the start of October, Det Supt Mike Courtiour, who is leading the investigation, revealed police had uncovered new evidence, including detailed information about the blue rope used to tie up Melanie Hall's body and a recently seized white A-registered Volkswagen Golf CTI cabriolet car.

The renewed appeal for information marked the fourth anniversary of the discovery of Melanie’s body, wrapped in bin bags and left next to the slip road of junction 14 of the M5 near Thornbury.
