THE owner of a taxi firm in Bradford on Avon is concerned for the future of his business as plans for a new mixed-use building on the site he operates from have been accepted.
Plans for the three-storey building, which could be used as a fitness centre, offices or a health clinic, were accepted by Wiltshire Council last month, after no objections from the town council.
Mike Brigham, of Bradford on Avon Taxis, has rented the taxi kiosk in Station Approach for four years.
Following demolition of the existing kiosk, the new kiosk will be to the side of the development, with external access and service hatch.
Mr Brigham, of Trow-bridge, said: “We do very well in Bradford on Avon. We have grown over the years and we are getting bigger. We are in a very good position and it is convenient for people. Bradford on Avon needs a local taxi service.
“We like our office and we would prefer to stay there, but things change.
“I am worried about the long-term prospects. A gym needs a minimum number of members to keep it going.
“There is a possibility it could work, but even the big gyms are struggling.
“Somebody else needs to be in there, so I hope the right business moves in and makes it work.”
Landlord Warren Jones, of Sires Property, said: “Mike has done well with the business so far and I hope he continues to stay at the location in the future.”
Mr Jones said he hoped the building work would start next year.
