A teenage girl suffered leg injuries when she was hit by a car outside Melksham Oak Community School on Friday.
The 17-year-old pupil was hit by a silver car as she ran across a pelican crossing outside the school at around 10.30am, suffering soft tissue and ligament damage.
Headteacher Steve Clark said: “She’s back in school now, and seems to be doing okay, so thankfully it wasn’t too serious.
“We’ve not had any issues outside the school before; there used to be a 60mph limit before the school was built and we campaigned to reduce it to 30.
“The fact it was on the pelican crossing and the driver didn’t stop is of real concern.”
The car, which was driving from the town centre and had been waiting at the lights, is reported to have been driven by a man with another man in the passenger seat, and stopped briefly up the road before driving off.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information about the collision, is asked to contact PC Hargreaves of Wiltshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555111.
