A pensioner has suffered life-threatening head injuries after falling off his bike in Corsham this morning.
A neighbour found the 67-year-old man lying unconscious in the middle of Dickens Road at around 8am this morning.
He was treated at the scene and taken to Frenchay Hospital near Bristol by ambulance.
He was returning home along Dickens Avenue after completing a paper round, and was still carrying the empty orange bag which had contained the newspapers.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.
Officers from the Wiltshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT) are currently investigating the circumstances around the incident and would like to hear from anyone who saw the man cycling in the Dickens Avenue Area.
The road was closed for approximately three hours whilst enquiries at the scene took place.
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Steve Cox on 101.
