A man from Trowbridge has been sentenced to five years in prison after admitting to sexually assaulting a girl.
Forty-two-year-old Colin Almond from Studley Rise pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual activity with a girl between 2003 and 2004, when she was aged 12 and 13.
Almond was sentenced to the five-year jail term at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, and afterwards, investigating officer DC Helen Wallen from Melksham CID said: ‘It takes great courage to come forward and report incidents like this, knowing that it will mean re-living what will have been a very distressing time.
‘Because of the victim's extremely brave actions in reporting this to police we have been able to ensure justice has rightly been done and a cruel individual will now face the consequences of his shameless actions.
"We will always treat reports like this with the utmost seriousness, you will always be believed and we will always fully investigate."
