A fire crew rescued a cat from an empty house near the Cross Guns pub in Avoncliff last Friday, after being called to a blaze there at 1.50pm.
They were alerted by a pub customer, after the fire apparently started when a stack of paper was left by the oven.
The crew from Bradford on Avon confined the blaze to the kitchen, and gave the cat to neighbours to look after until its owners were notified.
