Specsavers in Trowbridge has raised more than £800 for Ashley Gover, to help him cope after his life was turned upside down by a rare eye condition.
Yasmin Andrews, Ashley’s great aunt, a dispensing optician at the branch, accompanied him on hospital visits before he was diagnosed with Leber’s optic neuropathy.
The store held a Halloween cake sale, a raffle and a car boot sale and has put up posters in the branch.
Mrs Andrews, 52, said: “From the moment he was diagnosed, it touched our hearts and we wanted to raise money for him.
“I know it won’t restore his vision, but the family can buy things to make his life better. The support from staff, the directors and the general public has been amazing.
“We will continue to raise funds, but they will now go towards the RNIB and Guide Dogs, as they are charities that will benefit Ashley in the future.”
Now customers are being invited to guess how many pairs of glasses are in a pot for the chance to win designer spectacles. Goes are £1 each.
