Westbury mayor David Windess and councillor Philip Wakeman will risk pain for gain on Saturday when they have their legs waxed to help Children in Need.

The pair will undergo the challenge at Beauty Retreat in Maristow Street, where staff will be collecting donations for the annual BBC fundraiser from customers and passers-by.

Cllr Windess said: “I have really hairy legs, so it will probably take a while, but it’s all in a great cause. They keep promising me that it will not hurt, but I’m not convinced.”

Beauty Retreat owner Sue King, who came up with the idea, said: “I accosted David at a charity event at The Laverton. I asked him if he would be up for it and he said yes.

“We also managed to rope in Philip and we are hoping that, by fundraising throughout the day in the salon, we will be able to raise as much money as possible.

“It will be a new experience for them and I have told David it’s just like pulling off a plaster. People are welcome to pop in and show their support and any donations would be gratefully received.”
