A roadshow will visit Trowbridge this week to highlight the key symptoms of bladder and kidney cancers.
Figures from Public Health England show that 153 people were diagnosed with kidney or bladder cancer in 2010, with 71 dying of the disease.
The ‘Be Clear on Cancer’ roadshow aims to drive awareness of blood in urine, even if it appears just once, as a key symptom of bladder and kidney cancers, and to encourage those who notice the symptom to visit their GP.
A survey by the Eastern Cancer Registry and Information Centre found almost one in three of people in the South West would wait and see if they spotted blood in their pee again before taking any action, which could delay their diagnosis.
Early diagnosis is crucial to saving lives but not enough people are diagnosed at an early stage.
The Be Clear on Cancer roadshow is visiting shopping centres across England over the next five weeks and will be stopping in Castle Place, Trowbridge on Friday and Saturday.
At each of the Be Clear on Cancer events, a nurse will be on hand to talk in more depth with anyone who has any questions about bladder and kidney cancers, and to give advice on visiting their GP.
