The situation regarding HGVs exceeding the 18-tonne bridge limit in Bradford on Avon needs serious consideration by Wiltshire Council.
Despite the best efforts of the Lorry Watch team, who do a sterling job reporting offenders, I gather the number of overweight lorries has increased this year.
It is ridiculous that policing is left to dedicated local volunteers. These lorries create huge amounts of damage in terms of pollution, safety and access to an an already congested and polluted town.
Wiltshire Council must find a more effective way of keeping these lorries out of Bradford on Avon and stop taking advantage of the goodwill of local residents, who put themselves at some personal risk in all weathers to protect this historic town every day of the week.
