We see around us the council spending vast amounts of public money on revamped council offices.
After speaking with many people and families around the area, many ask why can’t some of that money be used to give the people of Trowbridge and the community at large a decent sports facility, ie around a football club, with proper level playing surface, clubhouse, changing rooms for both sexes with a covered seating and standing areas with car parking.
If you look at other smaller towns in Wiltshire and Somerset – ie Warminster, Westbury, Chippenham, Frome – they all have much better facilities than Trowbridge.
Trowbridge, as the county town of Wiltshire, is growing bigger year-on-year, with more people moving here, along with more and more houses and estates being built.
This facility would also give the county town a greater community spirit and bring more of us together, as it could be used all of the time; something to be really proud of.
What we have at present is pitiful, a so-called pitch at Woodmarsh which has no facilities and spends most of the winter months under water, as there is no drainage, and is no better than a ploughed field.
The other area at the rear of Palmer Road, I can’t call a football pitch as it is so uneven. It’s only fit for grazing livestock. Along with a ship’s steel container, painted light grey – this is the changing room – it’s a joke.
The people of Trowbridge, young and old, deserve a lot better, instead of being left in the dark ages.
Mrs M Cassidy, Clarendon Road, Trowbridge.
