A Bradford on Avon gardening competition that has run for more than 20 years will not take place in 2014 due to a lack of entries for this year’s event.
Bradford Blooms, organised by Bradford on Avon Town Council, invites residents and businesses to showcase their flower displays, before being judged by independent judges.
Sandra Bartlett, assistant clerk at Bradford on Avon Town Council, said: “The numbers have dwindled this year, so we won’t be having the competition next year.
“We are open to new ideas and have asked this year’s entrants for feedback and how they think the competition can be in the future.”
Some feedback has stated that the July competition is too late in the year and that there needs to be promotion.
Last year’s winner of the best garden, Sally Wilson, said: “We knew it was tricky this year. The town council were very good and they are trying to come up with a way to make it work.
“I would love to see it continue.
“More people need to realise that they can enter.
“It is difficult to try and get people to realise it is fun. You certainly don’t have to be a professional.”
Vicky Landell Mills, a town councillor for 20 years until this year, said: “We now have a very successful flower show and Bradford Blooms needs refreshing.
“If more people wanted to join, it would be able to carry on.”
