Bradford on Avon Rugby Club is hoping to provide a larger clubhouse with improved facilities by building a two-storey extension on their home in Winsley.

Permission was granted by Wiltshire Council last month for the extension, which will provide a new training room, two more changing rooms, a new meeting room and a kitchen at the Ashley Road club.

Secretary Pete MacGregor said: “We want it to be more versatile.

“At the moment we are pushing for space as we are continuing to grow.

“We will now be able to accommodate visiting teams and other users of the club.”

The club, which was formed 30 years ago and moved from St Laurence School to the Winsley ground in 2003, has grown considerably and now has four full-size rugby pitches and caters for around 300 children and 90 adults.

The single-storey club currently has four changing rooms and a club room with a bar and is home to Bradford on Avon Rugby Club and Bradford on Avon Town Youth Football Club.

A working party is being put together, where quotes will be discussed.

Mr MacGregor said: “We hope the project will be finished by September next year before the new season starts.” A lot of the equipment is currently stored in containers outside the club but new storage rooms will be built. Spectators and parents will be able to view the sporting action from the new terrace on the first floor.

Chris Brunt runs BoA Designs LLP, and has designed the extension.

He said: “I have been a coach at the rugby club for the last seven years and as such was ideally placed to see the needs and requirements of the club at first hand.

“I am extremely pleased with the finished design which will fulfil the club’s needs for many years to come. The club has come a long way from its start in the back rooms of the The Rising Sun 30 years ago.”
