A JEWELLERY box loaded with £4,000 worth of rings and earrings was stolen from a house in Bowerhill on Sunday while the owners were away.

Thieves are believed to have used a screwdriver to break open a rear UPVC window overnight at the house in Birch Grove, Bowerhill.

The distinctive wooden box has a robin engraved on the top, and contained rings and earrings, including a gold and diamond engagement ring, and a ruby ring with claws holding the stone in place.

Sergeant Sean Brady of Wiltshire Police said: “This was a major theft. I would urge people to ensure when they go away they make arrangements for people to come and switch their lights on and close the curtains, to make it look like they are still in.

“We have only had three burglaries recently, but this has been a common link for all of them. If anybody were to recognise these items, or has them offered for sale, please get in touch.”
