A HISTORY teacher from Kingdown School in Warminster has written another book to add to his growing collection.

Martyn Whittock, pictured, from Bradford on Avon, wrote A Brief Guide to Celtic Myths and Legends in his spare time from teaching.

The 55-year-old said: “I have a big interest in early medieval history and the history of beliefs and myths.

“This book looks across the spectrum: Ireland, Brittany, Cornwall, Isle of Man, anywhere where there is a Celtic connection.

“There is a huge range. The myths are very imaginative and dramatic and range from battles to love stories.”

He has taught history at Kingdown School for 21 years and is now the school’s curriculum leader for spiritual, moral, social and culture.

He said: “It is good to explore these myths and legends that are part of the history of the British Isles, particularly in the British culture we are now celebrating the Celtic input. I hope people get a flavour of that from reading the book.

“I learnt an enormous amount writing it. It was a journey of discovery and exploration. The challenge was trying to make a huge range of material accessible for the reader and that is where my teaching experience has come in.”

A Brief Guide to Celtic Myths and Legends is available in bookshops and online.
