St Laurence School’s assistant headteacher is bidding farewell to “the most rewarding career” after 28 years teaching at the Bradford on Avon School.

Sue Cooper, 60, from Trowbridge, has been in the teaching profession for 38 years and will retire from St Laurence School this month.

She started as a PE teacher at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham before moving to John of Gaunt School in Trowbridge for two years. In 1985 she joined St Laurence as a supply teacher. She taught (PSHE) Personal, Social, Health Education for 25 years and was head of department for over 20 of those years.

Mrs Cooper retires as assistant headteacher, staff governor and key supporter of the St Laurence School Associat-ion, which works on initiatives such as the street party.

She said: “I wish all the teachers and students at St Laurence every success in the future as it is one of the best schools I have worked in.”

The grandmother of one is looking forward to travelling, golfing and spending more time with her family.
