Tributes have been paid to an active member of the Bradford on Avon community, Ken Miller, who died suddenly on Sunday aged 71.

Mr Miller, of Avoncliff, helped run the Bradford on Avon Club, in Market Street, was chairman of the Bradford on Avon Wine Appreciation Society for 12 years and acted in many town productions.

He was also a volunteer for Lorry Watch since it was established in 2011 and a member of the Royal British Legion Freshford branch.

Jonathan Hewat was one of the founding members of the wine society, established in about 1990, and formed a close friendship with Mr Miller.

He said: “He had a great sense of humour and was a kind, generous and thoughtful man. It was difficult not to know Ken in the town as he was involved with so many things.”

Mr Miller became involved in the management of Bradford on Avon Club three years ago and performed several roles as a member of the committee as well as many of the events throughout the year.

Ian Grant, chairman of the club, said: “His contribution to the regeneration of the Bradford on Avon Club has been invaluable.

“He will be sadly missed.”

Mr Miller’s last performance was the role of God in the Bradford on Avon community production of Noye’s Fludde in July.

Judy Eglinton, manager of Iford Arts, which helped organise the production, knew Mr Miller for 30 years through amateur productions.

She said: “He was a very kind man, much loved and an amazingly powerful actor.”

Mayor John Potter was on the Bradford on Avon Wine Society committee for nine years and said: “He was a good bloke, involved with lots of things, and will be missed.”

The grandfather of six leaves behind his wife Kathy and six children.

His funeral, which his family are calling Ken’s Grand Finale, will be at West Wiltshire Crematorium on November 6 at 1.45pm. Family flowers only but donations can be made to The Neem Tree Trust.
