There was a party atmosphere in Warminster last night as thousands of people lined the streets to enjoy the colourful procession of floats on show for the town’s annual carnival.
Led by the Warminster Lions float, this year’s Warminster Carnival included nearly 70 entries, including majorettes’ groups, making it one of the biggest ever.
Carnival-goers were treated to entries based on fictional stories such as Alice in Wonderland and Romeo and Juliet, while last year’s award-wining Hot Rock Carnival Club produced a spectacular Ghostbusters-themed float.
There were also floats entered by Warminster Rugby Football Club and Highbury Youth Football Club for the carnival, which is the last in the Wessex Carnival Circuit.
Lucy Graham, from Chapmanslade, who attended with her children Dion, 8, and Alyssia, 5, said: “It was a really good occasion. We come every year and this was one of the best.
“We love coming to the carnival, especially the kids, who really enjoy seeing all the different floats. There were some great ones this year, including the ghostbusters one, and the majorettes were great too.”
Floats followed the traditional route, setting off from Boreham Road and going through East Street, Market Place and Silver Street before ending in Church Street, by the Minster Church.
Craig Kemp, from Warminster, who attended with friend Louise Thursby and her daughter Ruby, 5, said: “It was absolutely brilliant, apart from the rain, but that didn’t stop people coming out.
“We come every year, but this year there seemed to be more effort put into the floats, as there were some excellent designs. It was a great show and I was impressed by all of them.”
