At least two people were evacuated from a house in Innox Road, Trowbridge, after it caught alight just before 11am today.
Firefighters from Trowbridge, Melksham and Bradford on Avon were called to the Victorian terraced home after the fire began at the rear of the house, believed to be the kitchen.
The kitchen and the rear of the house were badly damaged.
Fire investigators are at the house trying to discover how the blaze started.
One person suffered minor injuries.
Police closed Bradford Road for a while.
