Firefighters put out a tractor fire in Canal Road, Trowbridge, just before the town’s carnival parade began on Saturday.

The vehicle was preparing to tow a float when a fire started in its cab at 6.30pm. It caused minor damage and the float still took part.

Elsewhere in the town, Samuel Imrie, 21, of Devonshire Place, Melksham, was charged with drink-driving and driving without insurance after a Renault Clio and Peugeot 106 collided. He is expected to appear at North West Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court, in Chippenham, on November 7. A 24-year-old Trowbridge man was banned from the town for 12 hours after he threw chips at carnival spectators.
