Matravers School in Westbury is on track to being graded as “good” at its next Ofsted inspection, according to a monitoring inspection visit carried out at the school.

Her Majesty’s Inspector James Sage visited Matravers on October 10, to look at progress that the school has made since its Ofsted inspection was carried out in March this year.

That visit found the school “requires improvement”.

However, since then Simon Riding has taken over from interim headteacher Beverley Martin and set the school the target of achieving “outstanding” status within 18 months.

And according to Mr Sage, the school is now already “well on track to be judged to be good at its next inspection and well before the end of the two-year period”.

He added that Dr Riding’s ambition for the school to be outstanding “appears to be possible within the required period”.

After the assessment, Dr Riding said: “We are delighted with this recognition that Matravers is on the journey towards outstanding.

“It’s all down to the hard work of the students and the staff, who have done a great job.

He added: “We have really accelerated our progress this term and Ofsted clearly recognise this.

“Our students are really proud of their school and recognise the higher expectations being made of them.”

Matravers School is due to be fully inspected again by a team from the Government’s education watchdog, Ofsted, at some point within the next 12 months.
