Thousands are expected to visit Trowbridge on Saturday to enjoy the sights and sounds of the town’s annual carnival.

The event, which starts at 7pm in Canal Road, will see more than 40 floats parading through Trowbridge town centre.

Maryrose Mantle, the Trowbridge Carnival Committee chairman, has been involved in organising the procession for the past 15 years.

She said: “The carnival is loud, bright colourful fun for all the family. The atmosphere is just fantastic and it is amazing to see the smiles on all the children’s faces as the wonderful floats go by.”

The carnival will boast more than 40 floats, including entries by community groups and organisations, with the procession finishing at Cradle Bridge.

Mrs Mantle said: “I have already seen some of the floats that will be on the circuit and they are absolutely splendid. We have still been getting entrants this week and it is not too late for more people who’d like to get involved.”

Staff from Trowbridge’s new Odeon cinema, opening in the St Stephens Place Leisure Park on October 25, will be supporting the carnival by handing out discount vouchers to the crowd, while there will also be a fun fair in Court Street.

The evening will see a series of road closures and parking restrictions placed in the town to allow the carnival to run smoothly.

Mrs Mantle said: “We’d ask for those commuting in to have some consideration and remember to park in the town centre car parks or on the outskirts of the town.

“We really appreciate the support of those travelling from across the south west and our team are working hard to put on another great carnival.”
