A video produced by pupils from Trowbridge’s Holbrook Primary School is in the running for a national film award.
The group of children, who did the work last term, when they were in Year 4, have been shortlisted in the animation section of the Kids 4 Kids film festival for SEEMEE: First Impressions.
The pupils worked with Chippenham filmmaker Jamie McDine on a video documenting the cultural differences that elder members of the local black community experienced on arrival in Britain.
Headteacher Roger Whitewick said: “We are delighted to be nominated and hopeful we can win.
“The project was a great thing for the children, as it helped them develop a series of new practical skills, but also allowed them to learn about important history from those who experienced it.”
The children took on roles of interviewers, camera operators, illustrators and actors in the piece, produced as part of a black history project supported by Wiltshire Council. Clarendon Acad-emy and Matravers School also produced films and all three were screened at County Hall.
A group from Holbrook will attend the Kids 4 Kids awards, being held at the British Film Institute, London, on October 26.
Mr Whitewick said: “We are one of five up for the award and the event will be an amazing occasion. We are very proud of all the hard work our pupils have put into this project.”
