Bradford on Avon’s Fairtrade group has produced an eyecatching postcard to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the town having Fairtrade status. The postcard is a montage of pictures of the town, donated by local photographer Andrew Eberlin, and on the back is some information about the meaning of Fairtrade.

Bradford on Avon was the first town in Wiltshire to receive Fairtrade status. Fairtrade products are readily available in its shops and cafes, and the town council also supports the cause by using Fairtrade products.

Fairtrade group leader Vivienne Kynaston said: “The idea of Fairtrade is spreading like wildfire and there are over 500 Fairtrade communities now in other parts of the world, including India and some African and South American countries. We get lots of overseas tourists in Bradford on Avon so it will be great to see them buying the cards and the message making its way back to their home countries.”

To celebrate the tenth anniversary, mayor John Potter will unveil a Fairtrade sign below the town map in Westbury Gardens tomorrow, and there will be a party in the evening for all those who helped Bradford on Avon become a Fairtrade town.

Rowena Quantrill, who was the co-ordinator of the Bradford on Avon Fairtrade group at the time Fairtrade status was granted, said: “Through contact with Fairtrade farmers we have learnt firsthand what a difference selling their products on Fairtrade terms has meant to them.”
