Organisers of the Village Pump Folk Festival are delighted with the success of this year’s event.

The annual festival welcomed around 2,000 visitors to th White Horse Country Park, in Westbury, at the weekend.

Headline performers included iconic Scottish band The Proclaimers, Steeleye Span, Eric Bibb and Kate Rusby with around another 50 acts performing across two stages and a club tent.

John Alderslade, festival director, said: “This year’s event was a resounding success and we are just delighted. Some of the major highlights had to be Steeleye Span and, of course, The Proclaimers but I think we offered something for everyone over the weekend.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to our team who did a great job in putting on the event as for many of them this was their first time putting a festival together.”

Mr Alderslade said that he was already holding talks with artists about performing at next year’s festival.

Wiltshire Police encountered no trouble at the event, which launched in 1974, with Inspector Lisette Harvey praising the crowd for responsibly enjoying the festival.

She said: “Despite a bit of bad weather, the event all went very well from a police point of view.

"We had officers at the site throughout the weekend, just to show a presence and to offer reassurance to anyone who might have needed us.”
